* SCTE event targets OCAP
The OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP) will be the subject of the Feb. 15 installment of The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers‘ “Live Learning” series.
The Web-based event, to be headed up by YAS Corp.’s Doug Jones, is free to SCTE members, and $29 for non-members. Registration information is available on the Web.
* Schilp to lead OpVista EMEA effort
Optical transport company OpVista Inc. has appointed Bernd Schilp to the post of VP of sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Schilp, who will be based in Germany, most recently was VP of sales, EMEA at UTStarcom Inc. Before that, he was the managing director for Central and Eastern Europe of Zhone Technologies, and served in a senior sales roles at Lucent/Ascend Communications, Silicon Graphics and Hewlett-Packard.
* Amino takes MPEG-4 steps
IPTV set-top maker Amino Communications said it has completed compatibility of its AmiNET124 model with H.264 encoders from Harmonic Inc., SkyStream, Tandberg Television, and Tut Systems.
Amino launched the AmiNET124 last June. Cavalier Telephone, a telco based in Richmond, Va., is among the first to deploy it in support of an MPEG-4-based IPTV service.
