* Motorola wraps up acquisition of Netopia
Motorola completed its acquisition of Netopia, in a deal that ended up with a value of about $208 million. Netopia provides carrier-class broadband customer premise equipment (CPE), remote management software, and services to telecom operators worldwide. The acquisition strengthens Motorola’s position in the DSL market.
* ACA will try for Congress’ ear at May summit
The American Cable Association (ACA) said the theme during its 14th Annual Washington Summit on April 17 and 18 in Washington, D.C., will be “Driving Home Independent Cable’s Concerns.” The theme emphasizes the crucial need to educate members of Congress on how existing and pending laws impact non-vertically integrated cable operators.
* AT&T U-verse to include Music Choice
AT&T scored a distribution agreement with Music Choice that will allow it to deliver dozens of Music Choice digital audio music channels as part of its U-verse TV channel lineup. Audio will be accompanied by visual content such as artist photos, and album, song and artist information.
* EarthLink signs telemarketer for VoIP
EarthLink is partnering with TMone to promote EarthLink’s Internet voice products. TMone, a telesales and database marketing firm, will provide marketing sales support for EarthLink’s trueVoice, DSL and Home Phone Service. TMone, which has a database of 38 million broadband subscribers, also provides services for Vonage, Packet8, and SunRocket.
* InfoVista offers management software for cable ops
InfoVista has tailored its performance management solution, VistaInsight for Networks 2.2, for cable providers. The new VistaInsight Service Provider edition is designed to help cable MSOs simultaneously manage competitive broadband, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and digital video services for residential and commercial customers. The software provides DOCSIS-compliant discovery, monitoring and reporting on the performance of CMTSs and cable modems, accurate voice quality scoring, and other tools for managing triple-play services.
