* Motorola closes Kreatel buy
Motorola Inc. has closed a previously announced deal to purchase Sweden-based IPTV set-top maker Kreatel Communications.
Motorola said Kreatel’s management team and employees will remain based in Linkoping, but the vendor will be integrated with Motorola’s Connected Home Solutions business, which makes set-tops and other products for cable operators, telcos and other digital video service providers.
* airBand plays $8 M
airBand Communications, a fixed wireless company based in Dallas, raised $8 million in a round led by Key Venture Partners. Existing investors Sevin Rosen Funds, Crescendo Ventures and Dolphin Equity Partners also participated in the round.
airBand said it supplies wireless broadband to about 2,000 businesses, including Continental Airlines, Fujitsu, Solomon Smith Barney and WebMD.
