* Alcatel adds compact IP service router
Alcatel now has available its new 7710 Service Router, a compact, optimized service routing platform with a throughput of 12 Gbps. The router is targeted at mobile operators, service providers with smaller points of presence (POPs) and emerging markets.
The 7710 SR features high availability, service richness, and Quality of Service (QoS) features, according to Alcatel.
* Optus to distribute Canopus digital video delivery solution
Optus has become a national distributor partner with Canopus Corp., a part of Thomson’s Grass Valley operation. In the new agreement, Optus will distribute the Canopus MediaEdge2 -LAN-based video delivery technology solution.
A small but growing business application is the delivery of video content to businesses – primarily retail outlets, for their digital signs.
* Otelco Selects BigBand for VoIP, broadband IP
BigBand Networks announced that Otelco plans to use the BigBand Cuda12000 CMTS and BigBand FastFlow broadband provisioning manager to provide broadband Internet access, VoIP and service provisioning in the carrier’s five incumbent operations located in Alabama and Missouri.
* Consolidated Communications selects ViewNow’s VOD
ViewNow announced that Consolidated Communications Holdings will license its content and will be using its ViewTrak usage monitoring, tracking, and reporting software for its VOD service deployment in Illinois scheduled to deploy in 2006. Based in Mattoon, Ill., Consolidated Communications is a local exchange carrier serving business and residential customers with about 242,000 access lines in its two-state service area.
