• TWC names Teplitz SVP of govt. relations

Time Warner Cable (TWC) announced that Steven Teplitz will join the company as SVP of government relations. He will oversee TWC’s federal legislative, regulatory and external affairs.

Teplitz is currently VP and associate general counsel at Time Warner Inc., where he is responsible for communications policy and regulatory affairs. He works closely with Time Warner business units, including HBO, TWC, Turner and AOL, which he joined in 1997 in the company’s legal department.

Previously, he was an attorney in the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Common Carrier Bureau. Prior to the FCC, Teplitz was an attorney in private practice and represented cable operators and wireless carriers.

• Verizon’s FiOS TV service wins in Mass.

Residents of Stow, Mass., will soon have access to Verizon’s FiOS TV service, thanks to a newly approved agreement authorizing the telco to offer its video service in the area.

The vote makes 75 the total number of Massachusetts communities where Verizon’s FiOS TV is, or will soon be, available.

Verizon currently offers FiOS TV in 72 Massachusetts communities, as well as other locations in New York, New Jersey, California, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia.

• Electroline’s mini-nodes

Electroline Equipment Inc. has unveiled its EDX-T series of MDU mini-nodes with configurations for GPON, RFoG and HFC architectures.

The Tri-Plexer and laser configurations can accommodate up to four wavelengths on the primary port and two wavelengths on the ONT bypass port. A 1590 nm laser option will support RF return traffic from set-top boxes or cable modems.

As a result, data GPON ONTs can be optically coupled with the EDX to provide two-way RF video service. Buildings without PON equipment can run the EDX on the same 1:32 split physical network. Systems that rely on a CMTS can use the RFoG configuration to operate on the same 1:32 PON physical layer.

• Standard, comvenient team

Through a partnership with comvenient, Standard Communications is now offering encryption solutions. The systems include betacrypt II, a conditional access system for broadcast and IP; and betanexxt, a customer care and billing system. comvenient has close to 100 systems installed globally.

The betacrypt II system gives cable operators a scalable, reliable means of offering encrypted digital services to subscribers. It is designed for up to 10 million users, yet is scalable to virtually any number of subscribers. This allows operators to move to a digital platform without unnecessary expenses while gaining a robust digital platform to support their long-term needs, according to the company.

The comvenient system is suited for both new and growing operators moving to a digital platform. It has the ability to work in multiple environments, including HFC, satellite, MMDS or IP networks, and features an adaptable architecture.

• Arnco light-duty cable pulling system installs cable in conduit

Arnco Corp. has announced its Cable-Max light-duty cable pulling system for under-floor cable installations. Interchangeable accessories and pulling grips allow the Cable-Max to feed the cable through conduit more easily, according to the company.

The Cable-Max is suited for installation systems and conduits with nominal diameters of up to two inches. The system uses Polykat, a strong fiberglass rod. The Cable-Max fiberglass rod has an 80 percent fiberglass core, compared to 50 percent fiberglass rods that are on the market, according to Arnco. The guide head mounted on the front of the rod slips past all cables in the channel and prevents the rod from snagging on any obstacles.

The Cable-Max has an aluminum 18-inch cage that holds up to 260 feet of 3/16-inch rod. A light adjustable drag brake precisely controls the Polykat rod payout. Both ends of the rod have M5 threads, making it possible to work in both directions. The rod’s universal screw connection allows the use of the same accessories as Arnco’s Kati-Blitz premise cable pulling device.
