• Dish adds 4 HD local markets
By Traci Patterson
Dish Network has extended its local high-definition (HD) market reach with the addition of four new markets: Syracuse, N.Y.; Albany/Schenectady/Troy, N.Y.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Lansing, Mich.
Earlier this year, Dish announced plans to enhance its HD programming lineup throughout 2008. Dish expects to reach 100 local HD markets by the end of the year and have 100 national HD channels. The satellite provider currently offers HD locals in 65 markets, reaching more than 69 percent of TV households in the U.S.
In order to view HD programming, Dish customers can upgrade to a dishHD receiver, such as the ViP722 – a dual-tuner HD digital video recorder (DVR) that operates two TVs in separate rooms, one in HD and one in standard-definition (SD). The ViP722 can record up to 55 hours of HD content and up to 350 hours of SD content, and it allows customers to pause, rewind and fast-forward live TV programming.
