* Verizon pushes DSL farther into rural Illinois
Even as it rolls out fiber-to-the-home, Verizon continues to extend its basic DSL service to areas it previously did not serve with broadband. The latest extension of DSL was to 10 towns in Illinois: Capron, Galva, Fisher, Greenfield, Norris City, Palestine, Paulton, Pearl City, Walnut and Wyoming. Together, those areas represent a total of 7,000 potential customers.
Verizon is offering promotional prices for its 3 Mbps downstream, 768 kbps upstream service of $19.99 per month for the first six months and $29.99 per month thereafter with a one-year commitment. Verizon also has a 768 kbps/128 kbps package for only $14.99 per month with an annual service agreement.
