• Exfo releases test modules for FC network deployments
By Traci Patterson

Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering has launched the FTB-8525 and FTB-8535 Packet Blazer modules, which provide testing capabilities for Fiber Channel (FC) network deployments and support an optional test suite for complete performance validation of Ethernet services.

The modules reside in the FTB-200 Compact platform and offer fully integrated datacom testing in the industry’s smallest form factor, providing 1 Gbps, 2 Gbps, 4 Gbps and 10 Gbps full-line-rate FC traffic generation and analysis, the company said.

Key performance tests include bit-error rate (BER) testing, round-trip latency measurement and buffer-to-buffer credit estimation. The modules also combine Ethernet service performance validation through RFC2544 and BER testing, and LAN/WAN Ethernet testing capabilities from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps, according to Exfo. The modules are compatible with the FTB-400 Universal Test System and can be combined with other optical, transport or datacom modules.

• Aspen Optics launches configuration tool
By Traci Patterson

Aspen Optics has launched a configuration tool – known as the Aspen Optical Ethernet Configurator – for system integrators (SI) and internet service providers (ISPs) to generate solutions for fiber network connections.

The tool can give instant recommendations on how to connect fiber networks, ensuring network quality and cost-effectiveness since the best options for connection are being generated automatically, the company said.

The Aspen Optical Ethernet Configurator is available now and is open to public usage. Users choose the switch models they wish to connect and the distance between, and the configuration engine recommends the best options to connect based on customer input. For every situation, the tool will consider the specifications of that piece of hardware, compatibility, interoperability, transmission mode and the distance to be connected, Aspen Optics said.
