Broadcom kicked off this week’s International Consumer Electronics Show with several releases of new chipsets.
Today, Broadcom announced a new system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution for its MoCA product lineup. The BCM7408 thin-client HDTV set-top box SoC includes software support for the RVU Alliance’s remote user interface technology, integrated Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) technology support, as well as integrated MoCA 1.1.
“By designing a high-performance, MoCA-integrated family of solutions, we meet both consumer and service provider demands for integrated, in-home multimedia distribution services such as multi-room HD DVR,” said Dan Marotta, senior vice president and general manager of Broadcom’s Broadband Communications Group. “With our new BCM7408 thin-client SoC, working in conjunction with our BCM7420 media server solution, Broadcom reduces the cost, complexity and power requirements for service providers to deploy a whole-home connected entertainment environment and offer subscribers advanced applications.”
Broadcom also has a new-generation SoC on the IPTV side of its product lineup, with the additions of its BCM7208 (for high-definition applications) and the Broadcom BCM7468 (for standard-definition applications).
Lastly, Broadcom today announced support for the RVU Alliance’s remote user interface (RUI) technology on its latest set-top box and digital TV (DTV) system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions.
Through its support of the RVU technology, Broadcom said it enables multichannel television service providers to deliver their high-quality content with a consistent user interface to RVU thin-client devices throughout the connected home. Broadcom will demonstrate RUI technology support on its BCM7420 STB SoC solution and BCM3549 DTV SoC solution at CES.
