BroadLogic and ZTE have teamed to create an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) gateway capable of delivering broadcast-quality IP video to hospitality accounts and other businesses that are set up to receive analog video through QAMs.
The two integrated BroadLogic’s Internet Protocol to quadrature amplitude modulation (IP-to-QAM) reference system with ZTE’s C300 optical line terminal (OLT). The result is an EPON-to-QAM gateway that enables service providers to use EPON (both 1G and 10G EPON) to deliver high-definition and standard-definition television channels to hospitality and other bulk commercial accounts.
This approach enables operators to offer an enhanced service for customers by providing digital channels that offer a much better user experience than traditional analog channels, the two observed.
EPON-to-QAM gateways also can be used for residential services, and they can be especially appropriate for serving multiple-dwelling units (MDUs).
