Brophy, Campbell join ACA’s executive committee

March 4, 2008 By Mike Robuck

The American Cable Association’s (ACA) board of directors announced yesterday that Martin Brophy, the president and owner of Shen-Heights Television, and Kirby Campbell, the vice chairman of Armstrong, were elected to its executive committee.

According to the ACA, Brophy and Campbell represent independent cable operators that have provided telecommunications services in rural and small communities for more than 50 years.

“I look forward to working on ACA’s executive committee to prompt regulatory reform that will better serve their best interests,” said Brophy, who was inducted into the Cable Pioneers in 1996.

“The current regulatory environment is hostile toward independent companies that have dedicated themselves to providing advanced broadband services,” said Campbell, whose company was founded in 1946 by Jud Sedwick. “As the voice of independent cable, ACA has its work cut out for it, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve on ACA’s executive committee during this critical time.”

The ACA’s executive committee is responsible for overseeing the strategy, finances and policies of the organization.

On Friday, the ACA submitted a filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) asking that small cable systems be exempted from the dual-carriage rules that are slated to take place Feb. 19 of next year (story here).
