C Spire announced it launched its app-based streaming TV service this week. Back in April, the wireless operator reported it was in the final stages of beta testing the video service and it would only be available to customers of C Spire’s gigabit internet product across Mississippi.
Subscribers don’t need set-tops and can watch across various devices since C Spire TV uses an app designed to run on streaming devices including Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Apple TV. Roku availability is promised “in the coming days.”
Ashley Phillips, GM of C Spire Home Services, says the app-based flexibility is particularly designed to support different ways younger customers are consuming content and notes that new research by S&P Global Market Intelligence’s Kagan unit estimates 44 million consumers will have non-traditional TV services by 2021 — roughly a third of all TV homes.
Features of the service include DVR capability as well as the “Replay TV” feature, which allows users to watch some programming that aired over the past three days on demand. C Spire TV also offers a content recommendation engine.
“Our platform learns your preferences and recommends new shows and movies ideally suited to your tastes and interests,” Phillips says.
