Mississippi-based wireless carrier C Spire introduced fixed wireless service that it said provides “5G internet” at speeds of 120 Mbps to select markets.
The company said customers with a “dinner plate-sized” antenna attached to the roof of their home or business could receive high-speed internet over the air from C Spire’s fiber network and base stations.
The antenna, meanwhile, would be connected to the in-home or business network through an Ethernet cable and small power adapter.
“We’re on a mission to transform Mississippi one neighborhood at a time,” the company said on its website. “By leveraging 5G technology and our commitment to community, we aim to give Mississippians more choices and opportunities than ever before.”
Officials also touted a monthly plan that costs $50 without data limits, long-term contracts or installation or early termination fees.
The service launched over the weekend and is currently only available in a handful of cities, according to a report from Cord Cutters News.
