Switched digital video (SDV) is starting to filter down to smaller cable operators. Case in point: Adara Technologies teamed up with Cisco to deploy SDV with Canadian cable operator Cable Cable.
With SDV in place, Cable Cable is offering its 4,000 subscribers in Fenelon Falls, Ontario, and surrounding areas advanced interactive and high-definition services. The deployment used Cisco’s SDV system and digital set-top boxes, while Adara provided its support and integration services.
“After struggling for years with lesser digital cable TV solutions from other vendors with no success, we and our subscribers are delighted with the advanced digital set-top boxes and services that are now available on our HFC network,” said Michael Fiorini, general manager of Cable Cable. “With this solution, we effectively multiply our network capacity by three- to five times, giving us plenty of room for hundreds of HD channels and much more.”
In addition to the HD offerings, Cable Cable added a new electronic programming guide (EPG) and impulse pay-per-view services, according to Cable Cable owner and President Tony Fiorini.
“Adara also facilitated the integration of the Cisco digital solution with our billing system, which makes it very easy for our customers to purchase pay-per-view events and, accordingly, also makes charging the customers’ accounts completely automatic for us,” Fiorini said. “We can’t wait to deploy the VOD solution on the same Cisco platform hosted by Adara Technologies.”
