Cable ONE, the 13th biggest cable provider in the U.S., is racing into the gigabit wars. The company announced that it is going to roll out 1Gbps service to more than 200 cities and towns in its service area. The cities will start getting 1Gbps in 2016, and most of them are in the southwest and northwest of the U.S. In many cities, Cable ONE will be the only provider with 1Gbps service in that city.
“GigaONE will support the technology needs of the communities we serve, now and in the future,” said Joe Felbab, Vice President of Marketing for Cable ONE. “We are excited to be able to offer Gigabit service to nearly 1.5 million homes in the markets we serve.”
A majority of Cable ONE customers will have 1Gbps access at the end of 2016. In the first quarter of 2016, the following cities: Altus, OK; Duncan, OK; Borger, TX; Emporia, KS; Bisbee, AZ; Cottonwood, AZ; and McCall, ID, will become a Gigcity first.
“Cable ONE will be the first provider in the majority of our markets to offer Gigabit speeds to residential customers,” Felbab said. “Unlike many of our competitors, Gigabit service will be available to all of our customers – not just a select few in certain areas. We’ve been committed for decades to serving smaller cities and towns, and we are delighted to provide them with the latest technology to make them Gig cities in 2016.”
