Cable One will be offering a DOCSIS 3.0 service, with a downstream speed of up to 50 Mbps, later this month in Emporia, Kan.
According to The Emporia Gazette, Cable One, which is a subsidiary of the Washington Post Co., has been working on upgrading its system in Emporia for the past year and plans on launching the service May 16.
“The launch of our 50 Mbps Internet speed is one of Cable One’s most ambitious technical advancements in years,” Emporia general manager Joe Michaels said in the newspaper story.
The 50 Mbps tier is available to Cable One Elite and Preferred customers, and it has a starting price point of $25. Cable One has a usage cap in place of 50 GB for Preferred subscribers and 100 GB for its Elite customers. Subscribers can track their usage online and will be charged 50 cents per GB for going over their plans.
“We realize usage plans are new, so we have several safeguards in place so customers can try high-speed Internet data plans risk-free,” Michaels said. “If a customer has an overage charge in the first 90 days, they can call us, and we will gladly remove the charge. If a customer has an overage charge after the first 90 days and decides the high-speed Internet plan is not right for them, they can drop the plan without penalty. Customers will have unlimited usage between midnight and 8 a.m.”
Cable One is also adding HD channels from TNT and Hallmark with other HD offerings to follow.
Cable One, which is the nation’s 10th-largest cable operator, serves approximately 720,000 customers in 19 states with its triple-play services.
