Mediacom Communications has joined the ranks of cable operators that are offering a home automation service to their subscribers.
Mediacom, the eighth-largest cable operator in the nation, has joined Comporium Communications’ security, monitoring and automation (SMA) dealer program to deliver the home automation service across its footprint.
Using a broadband connection, the service combines a security alarm system, communications gateway and home automation platform into one device.
Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Bright House Networks, AT&T and Suddenlink Communications have all deployed home automation services over the past few years as they take on traditional home security providers such as ADT.
Like some of the other cable operators that have launched home automation services, Comporium uses iControl’s OpenHome software.
“Our advanced broadband network allows us to innovate and introduce new services like home management to serve the always connected lifestyle of our customers,” said John Pascarelli, Mediacom’s executive vice president of operations. “With the award-winning iControl OpenHome platform, our customers will have a total home management solution that gives them remote control access to lighting, appliances, thermostats and enhanced video monitoring through their smartphones, PCs and tablets.
“Equally important to us, as part of the SMA dealer program, we will have the dedicated support of Comporium, which has an impressive track record in home management and dealer support.”
