CableLabs announced yesterday that it has selected This Technology’s MetaMore software platform for use by its Metadata project.
This Technology’s MetaMore platform will be used to demonstrate interoperability among CableLabs VOD Metadata 1.1 and 2.0 specifications compliant systems.
CableLabs said MetaMore will be the reference and first implementation for translation between CableLabs VOD Metadata 1.1 and 2.0 specifications. MetaMore, a real-time metadata management platform, conforms to CableLabs VOD Metadata 1.1 and 2.0 specifications, and conforms to SCTE-130 specifications.
The CableLabs Metadata project defines critical business data about video-on-demand distribution, presentation and multiplatform streaming. Using This Technology’s software platform, MSOs, content providers and other advertising rights holders can now identify and control their supply of content and advertising opportunities.
“The CableLabs VOD 2.0 specification enables extensible metadata for multiple platforms and applications, including IP-based distribution, VOD playlists and advanced advertising,” said CableLabs CTO Ralph Brown. “It is a major step forward for the industry. The adoption of VOD 2.0 has been slow due to the lack of a transition tool. CableLabs licensed this software platform for use in its Metadata project because it translates between legacy VOD 1.1 Metadata assets and the new VOD 2.0 Metadata specification. This core translation service provides the seamless and critical link the industry has needed in order to move forward toward VOD 2.0.”
This Technology, which also has an advertising supply management application called SpotBuilder, made its debut at last year’s Cable Show in New Orleans.
