Cablevision on Tuesday became the first cable operator to provide its customers with access to live streaming of CBS content both online and on their mobile devices through CBS.com and the CBS app.
According to CBS, accessible programming includes daytime, primetime and late night shows, along with special events, local news and sports.
“We are pleased to expand on our already robust relationship with CBS by becoming the first provider to launch the network’s new live streaming feature,” Cablevision’s executive vice president of programming Tom Montemagno said. “Cablevision now holds distribution rights for all of CBS’s streaming platforms, demonstrating our commitment to providing customers with the ability to watch the high-quality content they desire on their own terms.”
The company said Cablevision’s Optimum TV customers can watch the content either from their desktop device via CBS.com or on their iOS and Android mobile devices and tablets through the CBS app. Customers can also access the content through Chromecast on their desktop or mobile devices, and can also access the CBS app through the TV to Go tab on the Optimum app.
The service is now available in every market served by a CBS owned and operated station, including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, Boston, Detroit, Minneapolis, Miami, Denver, Sacramento, Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
The news follows the August 2015 announcement of a multi-year Over-the-Top carriage agreement between the two companies that gave Cablevision the right to distribute CBS All Access and Showtime content to its customers.
