Cablevision has enabled its Optimum App for select Android devices to stream live and on-demand programming, as well as remote DVR programming capabilities, to its customers.
The free app, which is available for downloading from the Google Play store, currently works with some Android devices from Motorola and Samsung. The app, which Cablevision said has been downloaded more than 1 million times, gives Cablevision subscribers access to their linear and VOD video content over a variety of devices in homes.
The app also has additional features, such as an enhanced guide, the ability to use the Android device as a remote control for conventional TVs, and support for parental controls and closed captioning, as well as program ratings and recommendations.
Cablevision previously launched its app on the Kindle Fire; on Apple iOS devices, including iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad models; and on Mac and PC laptop computers.
“Our customers love the Optimum App because it offers tremendous control over when, where and how to find and enjoy television programming, with an intuitive interface and gorgeous picture. We are pleased to announce the availability of this very popular app on select Android devices while we continue to work to add new devices in the future,” said Bradley Feldman, Cablevision’s vice president of video product management. “The Optimum App is one of many ways we are extending the value of Optimum TV by making it easier than ever for our customers to discover and enjoy their favorite shows.”
In order to use the app, Cablevision subscribers need to have a digital cable box or CableCard, as well as an authorized modem, wireless router and supported Android handheld.
