Cablevision has unveiled a mobile version of its consumer Web portal for its data subscribers.
The new mobile platform offers Cablevision’s nearly 2.5 million Optimum Online subscribers mobile access to their e-mail, traffic information, local weather and TV listings on a user interface that was designed for handheld devices.
Cablevision said that Optimum.net for mobile is available on all mobile devices with browsing capabilities over all networks, including the iPhone, for which the site leverages the device’s unique capabilities to deliver an even further-enhanced user experience.
Personalized information is activated after signing in using an Optimum ID and password. Optimum has created the site with Usablenet.
“Mobility is becoming increasingly important to our customers, with an explosion of wireless devices and our own Optimum Wi-Fi deployment,” said Amalia O’Sullivan, Cablevision’s vice president of consumer product management. “So we wanted to take our consumer Web portal and present it in a way that maximizes its value and usability on small screens, including access to e-mail and the kind of personalized information that makes the desktop version of Optimum.net such an important and popular resource for our customers.”
Cablevision started building its Wi-Fi network last year, and has since deployed hotspots in various areas of its New York metropolitan footprint, as well as in parts of New Jersey.
