Cablevision Systems promoted James Blackley to executive vice president of corporate engineering and technology.
He will continue to serve as Cablevision’s chief engineering executive, with oversight of the company’s engineering and technology, enterprise IT, and e-media departments. He continues to report to Cablevision COO Tom Rutledge.
As executive vice president, Blackley will continue to work with Cablevision’s executive team on the ongoing evolution of the company’s strategic vision by assisting with critical objectives related to engineering and technology, the company said.
This includes collaborating with various Cablevision business units, such as product management and customer service, to help them capitalize on key opportunities and to design, develop and support current and future products and services through the effective use of advanced technologies.
Rutledge said, “Jim’s understanding of software creation and development has become even more important as Cablevision has evolved. Now that we have a network capable of delivering an entire suite of advanced digital services, our focus is on developing new interactive technologies that enhance those products even further and that provide maximum value for consumers. Jim has been extremely successful in directing this effort for Cablevision, and his promotion is well deserved.”
Blackley has managed Cablevision’s rollout of Optimum Wi-Fi, which Cablevision claimed is now the largest and most advanced Wi-Fi network in the nation; downloadable security, which Cablevision was the first to successfully develop and deploy; and the company’s RS-DVR technology, which will mark the industry’s first network-based DVR solution.
Other development projects have led to the MSG Varsity interactive channel and PC to TV Media Relay, as well as increased functionality for iO TV digital cable customers with the creation of search, shortcut and mosaic features.
