Background:
Optimum Lightpath, the business telecommunications services division of Cablevision Systems Corporation, uses the power of its reliable and resilient fully fiber optic network to deliver converged data, Internet and voice solutions to businesses throughout the New York metropolitan area. Since its formation 18 years ago, Optimum Lightpath has built an advanced Fiber-to-the-business-Premises network extending more than 2,400 route miles throughout the tri-state area. As a result of owning and maintaining this state-of-the-art network, Optimum Lightpath is able to reliably provide scalable, high-capacity IP-based Metro Ethernet services that support high bandwidth data, Internet and voice applications and optimize the enterprise customer’s quality of experience – at lower prices than traditional offerings.  In April 2006, Optimum Lightpath became one of the first service providers in the world and the only North American MSO to earn Carrier Ethernet certification from the Metro Ethernet Forum. Overview:
The Vice President of Product Development, Lightpath, is responsible for developing new products that drive new business customer acquisition as well as for increasing revenue from company’s current product lines. To do so, he/she must be able to develop a high performing organization; perform a comprehensive assessment of competitive service offerings to identify market opportunities; gather feedback from staff, industry analysts, and customers to prioritize product development opportunities; launch products into the marketplace; and develop relationships with third party providers to help expand our reach.

Primary Responsibilities:

Product Strategy:  develop a comprehensive strategy to maximize the ability to take market share, service customers effectively, and generate acceptable return to capital and cash flow.

  • Understand the current and evolving needs of existing and potential business customers.
  • Exploit new technologies to bring new products and capabilities to the marketplace.
  • Identify high-value potential products and potential product combinations for business customers.
  • Take full advantage of competitor intelligence and business intelligence Organization:  build and manage a high-performing organization.
  • Hire product and functional specialists who will maintain product leadership position.
  • Set and maintain high standards for individual and team performance
  • Build effective teams and cross-functional relationships

Execution:  provide superior business product management.

  • Supervise Product Managers in the definition of the product price, promotion, positioning, and placement for new and existing products and services
  • Increase the use of information and research in product management and marketing decisions
  • Manage effective information flows and communication regarding activity interdependencies between all levels of the Product Management organization and other functional groups.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of the current competitive environment in business telecom services and insight into the evolving needs of existing and potential medium and large commercial customers.
  • Demonstrated expertise in utilizing new technologies to launch products in the marketplace and manage multiple product lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and motivate highly effective teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, question assumptions and analyze issues from different perspectives to inform decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to take difficult technical concepts and break them down into layman’s terms in order to affect the broadest understanding of the issues. 
  • A creative individual who will contribute new ideas and foster creativity in others to ensure the continuing improvement and strengthening of product offerings.
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial individual with a strategic perspective who will initiate action, build new businesses, maintain core businesses and achieve results in a changing environment.
  • A strong communicator who can build consensus across multiple constituencies.
