TVCable Ecuador picked CMTS and CCAP vendor Casa Systems to provision its platform for a six-city expansion project.
TVCable had previously teamed up with Casa on a first phase expansion across eight cities within its footprint. Miami-based Cable Network Associates helped Casa land the deal with TVCable.
“Our existing platform had reached its capacity limits and our customers were looking for higher tier bandwidth services,” said Jorge Schwartz, CEO of TVCable.
TVCable Ecuador was established in 1986, and currently operates in more than 20 cities, including the capital city of Quito
“After a very thorough vendor evaluation we chose Casa because of its proven scalability, reliability, and its ability to seamlessly migrate to CCAP,” said Derek Caney, TVCable’s vice president of technology. “This protects our investment in DOCSIS and allows our network to be ready for any future services that our customers may demand.”
Last week Infonetics Research said the shift to the cable industry’s converged cable access platform (CCAP) platform was well underway in North America. In this year’s second quarter, CCAP revenue increased 39 percent from the previous third quarter.
Infonetics said in the same report that Arris, Casa and Cisco, in alphabetical order, were the top three vendors in the combined CCAP, CMTS and coaxial media converter (CMC) market in the second quarter of this year.
