Cavalier Telephone & TV has launched Broadband TV service in Richmond, Va. The company claims to be the first telephone provider in the United States to use MPEG-4 to transmit video over a broadband connection.
The company operates a fiber-based DSL network that delivers download speeds of up to 15 Mbps. It passes approximately 250,000 households.
Cavalier’s Broadband TV delivers over 150 digital channels, including all local network affiliates. The service features parental controls, on-screen caller ID, VOD and PPV.
Cavalier is marketing its bundle of Broadband TV, voice and DSL for $95 a month.
The company plans to roll out video services in its other markets including Norfolk, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Metro Washington, D.C., in the coming months, for a total of 2 million homes passed.
