French broadband Internet service provider Celeste is expanding its high-performance and high-bandwidth fiber-optic network to all major cities in France using optical transport network technology sourced from Tellabs.
The network will initially consist of ROADM-based, multichannel nodes and Optical Line Amplifier nodes. The Tellabs packet-optical solution is designed to scale with Celeste as its service and bandwidth needs grow over time. The system will ultimately be able to support 1 Gbps transport.
The operator is deploying the Tellabs 7100 Nano Optical Transport System (OTS) to expand the amount of bandwidth it can put in the service of commercial customers, which currently number around 2,000.
The network build is scheduled to take about 18 months and traverse roughly 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) in France. Once complete, Celeste’s nationwide high-capacity network will reach from Paris to all major cities across France, including Lille, Nantes, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Marseille, Lyon and Strasbourg.
Nicolas Aube, president of Celeste, said: “With this deployment, medium-size enterprises across France can access competitively priced, high-bandwidth services quickly and easily. Tellabs’ extensive knowledge and experience of international enterprise markets is an invaluable part of our success in this ambitious venture.”
According to data from Tellabs customers, a Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS solution can reduce capital expenses by up to 65 percent and operating expenses by as much as 85 percent.
