Multi-screen vendor Alticast will bring its cloud-based and Internet of Things (IoT) demos and products to next month’s Consumer Electronics Show as well as its CableCard-less security technology offering.
With the recent passage of the STELA bill that dropped the mandate for separable security CableCards, Alitcast’s AltiProtect demo at CES is noteworthy as the U.S. cable industry considers other security options that have been deployed abroad for years. Alticast said that AltiProtect was a standards-based security offering that has been deployed on millions of set-top boxes. The benefits of AltiProtect include seamless swap outs of content protection systems for both legacy and next generation devices without CableCards.
AltiProtect features a cloud-based, renewable system that leverages cryptographic hardware for the secure protection of media, Alticast said.
Alticast will also showcase its IoT of applications, which include home energy and home security as well as appliance monitoring and automation features, that work with the cable industry’s Reference Design Kit and other set-top box platforms.
Also in Las Vegas, Alticast will be showing its AltiPlex Cloud Services Platform (CSP), which includes cloud-based backoffice integration, metadata delivery, support for big data and add-on features such as a cloud-based personal video recording system. Alticast will also have its Cloud User Interface on display.
“Taking advantage of the Cloud and the Internet of Things to deliver new services opens up new business opportunities for cable operators and other video service providers that have tremendous potential,” said Alticast CTO John Carlucci. “Our advanced and proven solutions can address the most complex Cloud and IoT applications to truly simplify the delivery of current and future TV services.”
