A new high-performance socket handles 0.4-mm-pitch BGA 25-pin devices. The CG-BGA-5030 socket is designed for the 2.125×2.225-mm package size and operates at a bandwidth up to 30 GHz with less than 1 dB of insertion loss. The socket is designed with an easy open clamshell lid with an integrated compression mechanism. The contact resistance is typically 20 mΩ/pin. The socket connects all pins with a 30-GHz bandwidth on all connections.
The socket is mounted using supplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering and uses the smallest footprint in the industry. The smallest footprint allows inductors, resistors and decoupling capacitors to sit close to the device for impedance tuning. To use, operators place the device in the socket, close the clamshell lid and apply recommended torque via compression screw.
The CG-BGA-5030 socket is constructed with a high-performance and low-inductance elastomer contactor. The temperature range is -35 to +125°C. The pin self-inductance is 0.11 nH and mutual inductance is 0.028 nH. Capacitance to ground is 0.028 pF. Current capacity is 2 A/pin.
