Charter Communications announced yesterday that Allan Singer would join its senior leadership team as senior vice president of programming. Singer, who left the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), will report to Charter President and CEO Michael Lovett.
Singer was executive vice president of distribution and strategy at OWN, where his duties included leading affiliate sales efforts and developing the network’s strategy in transitioning the former Discovery Health channel to OWN.
“We’re thrilled to have Allan on board, rejoining his former colleagues on our programming and operations teams,” said Lovett. “I’m confident that Allan will provide outstanding leadership in his new role and that he and his team will achieve many successes in managing our always-important programming activities.”
Singer has a long career in the cable industry. Before joining OWN, he served as senior vice president of content acquisition, senior vice president of sports business development and senior vice president of programming investments for Comcast.
“After such a wonderful experience working for Christina Norman, Oprah Winfrey and David Zaslav on the launch of the Oprah Winfrey Network, I am now fortunate to be part of all the exciting things that are happening at Charter, especially as this provides me with the opportunity to again work with some incredible people for whom I have so much respect,” said Singer.
Prior to Comcast, Singer was senior vice president of programming for AT&T Broadband and president of its programming acquisition subsidiary, Satellite Services. He also held the position of vice president of programming at Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI) prior to its merger with AT&T.
