Charter Communications has joined the ranks of cable operators that are offering 3-D viewing to their subscribers with its Charter 3-D On Demand service.
Charter 3-D On Demand offers a range of 3-D movies in VOD for $6.99 per movie. The service is for Charter’s HD customers that have 3-D TVs in their homes.
“As winter approaches, people find themselves indoors a bit more and inclined to stay at home for their entertainment,” said Sean O’Donnell, Charter’s vice president and general manager in Missouri and Illinois. “Our on-demand service has become very popular year-round, providing in-home entertainment that’s convenient and inexpensive. Access to Charter on-demand is available at no additional charge for Charter digital customers, and now with the availability of ordering movies in 3-D, our on-demand service provides even more value to our customers.”
In order to view 3-D movies on-demand, customers will need to have a 3-D TV connected to a Charter Motorola HD receiver, as well as the 3-D glasses that came with their TVs.
Charter launched the 3-D service across all of its Motorola systems on Nov. 8. Charter plans on offering VOD 3-D movies on Cisco boxes next year. According to Charter’s website, additional 3-D content, such as live sporting events, might become available in the future.
