Charter Communications has put more spring in the step of some of its business and residential data tiers with increased speeds at no additional cost.
On the residential side, Charter has raised the speed of its flagship DOCSIS 3.0-based tier from 60 Mbps on the downstream to 100 Mbps and renamed it Charter Internet Ultra100. The upstream speed for Ultra100 is 5 Mbps.
In markets where Charter has deployed DOCSIS 3.0 technology, which is approximately 95 percent of its Internet service area, the company is increasing its Charter Internet Express download speeds from 12 Mbps to 15 Mbps and increasing upstream speeds from 1 Mbps to up to 3 Mbps.
Charter Internet Plus download speeds are being increased from 18 Mbps to up to 30 Mbps, and upload speeds are being increased from 2 Mbps to up to 4 Mbps.
Charter’s Express and Plus speeds are also increasing in the remaining portions of Charter’s service areas nationwide.

Charter Business increased its data speeds for its Charter Business Internet Essentials16 and Charter Business Internet Essentials25 tiers for the third time since last year, also at no additional cost. The new speed increases will take place in approximately 95 percent of Charter’s Internet service areas nationwide.
Specific increases in downstream and upstream speeds are:
- Charter Business Internet Essentials16, with downstream speeds of 16 Mbps and upstream speeds of 2 Mbps, will increase to up to 20 Mbps downstream and up to 3 Mbps upstream – at least six times faster than 3 Mbps DSL service and more than 13 times faster than a T1 line.
- Charter Business Internet Essentials25, with downstream speeds of 25 Mbps and upstream speeds of 3 Mbps, will increase to up to 30 Mbps downstream and up to 4 Mbps upstream – at least six times faster than 5 Mbps DSL service and 20 times faster than T1.
- Charter Business’ fastest commercial offerings, Pro50 and Pro100, remain the same, providing up to 50 Mbps downstream/5 Mbps upstream and up to 100 Mbps downstream/5 Mbps upstream, respectively.
With the increased speeds, businesses will have faster downstream and upstream times for file transfers and can more efficiently run billing systems and credit card processing, as well as enhance Web server and email efficiency. In addition, employees will gain faster access to data and more applications with hosted, cloud-based services.
