Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan is sticking with Envivio products to enable its trial of 4K HEVC streaming.
Chunghwa will be using Envivio’s Muse Ultra HD software to support two modes of 4K HEVC delivery to a wide range of devices: VOD content delivered via unicast transfer, and NVOD through multicast to HwaCom set-top boxes.
It was previously revealed that Chunghwa was using Broadpeak’s server and CDN manager solutions for the trial.
Envivio has been a supplier to Chunghwa. Hwacom vice president Alex Huang said, “Chunghwa Telecom and Envivio are both Hwacom’s strategic partners. In addition to this successful 4K/HEVC trial deployment, Hwacom delivered many Envivio OTT systems to Chunghwa Telecom to support its OTT business. Envivio’s exceptional product quality and support capability have helped both Hwacom and Chunghwa to solidify their OTT position in Taiwan. We look forward to working with both partners in the future.”
“We are pleased to support Chunghwa Telecom with the latest in 4K/ HEVC encoding technology for its innovative live streaming service trial. Such cutting-edge efforts will prove to the industry the efficiencies and cost-savings of HEVC for operators worldwide,” said Envivio’s vice president-sales APAC region Carl Hurd.
Envivio’s Muse Ultra HD software is designed to encode either one 4Kp60 (progressive video at 60 frames per second) or two simultaneous 4Kp30 (30 frames per second) video signals in HEVC format using the Envivio G5 server. These services can be delivered to Ultra HD-capable devices, including the latest generation of set-top boxes and Ultra HD TV sets.
