F6 Networks is using Ciena’s packet optical and packet networking gear to provision a dark fiber network that it’s building between Atlantic Canada and the northeastern United States.
The 100-gigabit network will be used by public sector organizations, private enterprises, Internet services providers and wireless carriers. The network will provide broadband connectivity between Saint John and Fredericton, New Brunswick, and will also include 10Gb and 1Gb Ethernet services to New Brunswick.
F6 is using Ciena’s OPn network architecture with both Packet-Optical and Packet Networking platforms to enable new commercial services opportunities in the areas such as cloud connectivity and Ethernet business services, or wholesale mobile backhaul and dark fiber services.
F6 recently announced a deal with Canarie, which is Canada’s national research and education network, to support network-enabled research at post-secondary institutions throughout northern New Brunswick.
With Ciena’s E-Suite product line, F6 will deliver 100G services to regional customers. F6 will also offer compact and high-capacity metro aggregation using Ciena’s service aggregation switches.
F6 will deliver 10GbE and 1GbE services to customers in Saint John and Fredericton powered by Ciena’s service delivery switches. Ciena said its service-aware operating system (SAOS) would provide zero-touch provisioning, line-rate service activation testing, and remote troubleshooting.
