MKS Instruments, Inc. introduced the Newport 818-RAD photodiode sensor with 8 mm aperture and cosine corrected diffuser for precise irradiance and dosage measurements. The 818-RAD enables more accurate measurements of LED light sources than standard photodiode sensors. It also offers calibration over a broad spectral range and is designed to replace traditional radiometers, which are only calibrated to a single wavelength.
With its spectral range of 200 – 850 nm and irradiance measuring range of 100 nW/cm2 – 250 mW/cm2, the Newport 818-RAD is a true general-purpose circular geometry photodiode irradiance and dosage sensor. The ensure a good, cosine-corrected response, a diffusor is placed in front of the photodiode to convert directional light into Lambertian diffused light, thus eliminating any sensitivity to direction. This allows an accurate measurement of highly diverging light sources such as LEDs.
The calibrated photodiode sensor features a full spectrum response calibration, utilizing NIST-traceable standards with high-precision equipment maintained at the MKS Newport optical detector calibration facility. Each sensor is shipped with the calibration data electronically stored inside the detectors EPROM. A certificate of calibration and the calibration data are shipped with each detector.
The new Newport 818-RAD photodiode sensor is compatible with a wide range of Newport and Ophir power meters.
