Cisco today announced plans to acquire Colorado-based policy control and service management provider BroadHop. Specifics of the deal were not immediately available.

Hilton Romanski, vice president and head of corporate business development for Cisco, said in a blog post that BroadHop’s policy control solutions for mobile and fixed networks will be integrated into Cisco’s mobility group.

Romanski said Cisco hopes the acquisition of BroadHop will help it offer service providers the flexibility to control, monetize and personalize the types of service they choose, on any network.

More specifically, BroadHop’s technology would enable service providers to offer more granular offerings to their end users.

“For example, if a consumer desires premium on-demand streaming, BroadHop technology allows the service provider to add value to and monetize this particular service,” Romanski wrote. “In return, the user is granted a high level of service and premium bandwidth to ensure the best possible experience.”

BroadHop was founded in 2003 and is based in Denver. William Diotte is the company’s president and CEO.
