Numericable is preparing to deliver HD 3-D video-on-demand using its Cisco Content Delivery System platform. The service is scheduled to begin before the end of this year.
The French cable operator installed Cisco’s CDS more than a year ago to provide VOD, Catch Up TV and user-generated content services.
The new service is being supported by the 3D-HD Alliance, which Cisco described as an open, collaborative group promoting and encouraging the development of high-definition and quality standards for 3-D television.
The members of the Alliance are Numericable, Cisco, Panasonic, Nagravision and Sagemcom. All additional information about the Alliance available as of press time is in French, but the 3D-HD Alliance appears to have been announced today, simultaneous with Numericable’s announcement about its intention to provide HD 3-D VOD.
