Clearwire has entered into a deal with Aicent, which is brokering what the two say is the first international roaming connection between WiMAX networks.
The two conducted a demonstration in which a USB modem and a Clear WiMAX service username and password were used to gain access to a WiMAX network in Taiwan, using Aicent’s WiMAX Roaming eXchange (WRX).
Lynn Liu, president and CEO of Aicent, said, “Aicent is fortunate to work with leaders like Clearwire to bring the innovations that will ultimately result in a worldwide ubiquitous WiMAX network.”
Aicent operates one of the world’s largest GPRS and 3G network exchanges, connecting to more than 50 operators, including four of the world’s five largest, by Aicent’s count.
With its relationship with Clearwire, Aicent is moving into 4G.
