Clearwire has made yet another major cost-cutting move, extending its contract with its customer care partner.
Just as Clearwire recently cut a network management deal with Ericsson and shifted about 700 employees over to Ericsson’s payroll, Clearwire will shift a large portion of its in-house customer care operation to partner TeleTech Holdings, including yet another 700 Clearwire employees.
TeleTech will be responsible for managing day-to-day customer care services for Clearwire customers.
The transfer of employees, some in Las Vegas and others in Milton, Fla., is effective immediately. Clearwire said it will retain approximately 180 people between both locations. Those employees remaining with Clearwire are responsible for a variety of back office activities, including operations, workforce management, process management and vendor management, among other tasks.
Clearwire has acknowledged cash flow difficulties. Removing nearly 1,400 employees in total from the payroll over the past two weeks should provide some more flexibility with how the company devotes its resources.
