Clearwire Communications, Comcast and Sprint will all begin offering their own branded versions of Clearwire’s mobile WiMAX in the next few weeks in Philadelphia, Chicago and Seattle.
Also before the end of the year, Clearwire and Sprint will launch WiMAX in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh in North Carolina; and in Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio in Texas in November. Service will be available from both companies in Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii, in early December.
Time Warner Cable previously announced it would begin reselling Clear in North Carolina this year and in Hawaii early next year.
Frequently in the past, there has been a lag of two to six weeks between Clearwire rolling out its Clear service and its investor partners offering their own branded versions. The simultaneous rollouts speak to a growing comfort with the service and the collaboration among the partners.
Clearwire, Comcast and Sprint will each launch 4G service in Philadelphia in the next several weeks, with sales in Chicago next, followed by Seattle/Tacoma in early December.
