Cogeco Data Services is beefing up its flagship data center in Barrie, Ontario by adding more than 20,000-square-feet of operational space.
Cogeco said the expansion project at the data center was underway and it will be wrapped up early next year. The data center, which opened last year, will have over 32,000-square-feet of floor space when the expansion is completed. Once the upgrade is finished, Cogeco will have invested $80 million in the data center.
The project was the result of Cogeco Data Services’ growing customer base and demand for its cloud and managed services.
“We are thrilled to be announcing the expansion of our Barrie data center. This addition to the facility will allow us to serve the growing requirements of current and newly acquired customers,” said Tony Ciciretto, president and CEO, Cogeco Data Services and Peer 1 Hosting. “With its close proximity to Toronto, Barrie is an ideal location for a primary data centre facility and is also far enough removed from Toronto’s downtown core to act as a disaster recovery site. As the demand for data services continues to grow, we are well-positioned to provide a world-class ICT offering for our clients’ mission-critical and value-add requirements.”
Built to exceed Tier 3 standards and be CSAE 3416 and PCI compliant, the Barrie facility offers data center, cloud, managed IT and connectivity services. It features redundant power, including backup generators and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems that provide conditioned power to critical loads and redundant system capacity to ensure continuous power availability.
The expanded center, which is the fifth in Cogeco Data Services’ growing data center fleet, also provides access to advanced hybrid solutions (colocation, cloud and managed data centre services), including business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities.
The data center was designed in partnership with Ehvert Mission Critical and features green technologies from Schneider Electric.
