Cogeco unleashes D3 in parts of Quebec

June 4, 2010 By Mike Robuck

Cogeco is offering its residential and business customers in the Trois-Rivières, Quebec, area new, faster DOCSIS 3.0-enabled data tiers.

On the residential side, Cogeco’s Ultimate 30 tier features download speeds of up to 30 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps, with a monthly download cap of 100 GB for a bundled price of $59.99 per month. Cogeco’s fastest tier, Ultimate 50, clocks in at 50 Mbps on the downstream and 1.5 on the upstream, with a monthly cap of 150 GB for $89.94 per month.

For just the data tiers, Cogeco is charging $64.95 per month for Ultimate 30 and $94.95 per month for Ultimate 50.

Cogeco said its customers who currently subscribe to its Business HSI Enterprise service in the launch area were upgraded to the Business Ultimate 50 package at no extra cost. The business tier has the same download speeds as the residential Ultimate 50 offering, but with an upload speed of up to 2 Mbps and an unlimited bit cap.

For new customers, Cogeco’s Business Ultimate 50 package costs $189.95 per month with a three-year commitment, $199.95 per month with a two-year commitment and $209.95 with no commitment. It includes modem rental, security services, unlimited data transfer, 20 e-mail addresses and a 100 MB capacity per e-mail address. The Business Ultimate 50 package will be rolled out gradually throughout Cogeco’s service territory.

Starting Tuesday, the above tiers will launch in the St-Hyacinthe area.
