Colors And Battery Compartment Added To Handheld Enclosure Family

February 2, 2018 By JPR Electronics

Specialist distributors JPR Electronics are now stocking an extended range of the very successful Hammond 1553 enclosures, ergonomically designed for hand-held comfort. Manufactured in rugged ABS the enclosures are available in three sizes and are suitable for instrumentation, POS, mobile data gathering and test equipment. A soft grey edge grip may be specified for secure and comfortable handling.

Four recently introduced colours are available; black, red, “safety” yellow and translucent blue to accommodate white and near white LEDs, readouts and displays. The original colours are light grey (RAL 7035) or black (RAL 9011)

The enclosures are intended to offer a rugged and reliable housing for electronic products that will be used in environments where dust and water is likely to be present and a particularly suited to applications where repetitive assembly and disassembly are required.

Available in three sizes, 117 x 79 x 25mm, 117 x 79 x 32mm and 147 x 90 x 25mm, all models are moulded in UL94-V0 flame ABS. The top cover of the Hammond 1553 is recessed to accommodate a membrane, keypad or display and the enclosure is available with or without a battery compartment with a door and can be supplied with connectors for 2 x AA or PP3 9V batteries. The front panel is removable, PCB stand-offs are moulded into the case and all assembly hardware is included.

The 1553W enclosure features a one piece silicone gasket and a tongue and groove construction moulded into the top and bottom halves to meet IP65 requirements. The top and base are assembled with four screws that locate into brass inserts in the top moulding, facilitating repeated access to the housed electronics. The fixing positions are outside the gasket, ensuring the integrity of the seal and the enclosure is RoHS compliant.

Paul Raynor, Director of JPR Electronics, comments, “Hammond Electronic enclosures offer high quality, excellent design and great value for money. The 1553W family provide a flexible and ergonomic enclosure for a wide variety of hand held devices that need to protect the internal electronics while enabling frequent opening and closing without loss of integrity of the seal.”

To reduce time to market and modification costs, all 1553W enclosures are available factory modified with machining and silk screening to the end customers’ requirements.
