Comcast Business has acquired managed WiFi provider Deep Blue Communications, bolstering the cable operator’s reach in the commercial WiFi arena with managed services.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Latham, N.Y.-based Deep Blue provides managed WiFi services for commercial clients, including major hotel brands such as Hilton, Marriot, Wyndham Worldwide Hotel Group, Hyatt, and Omni Hotels. The company also provides services for large entertainment venues, marinas, and retail locations.
The company will continue to operate under the Deep Blue Communications brand, with no planned changes to the cost of services for existing Deep Blue customers, according to a FAQ section on Comcast’s website.
“Customers will benefit from our expertise in advanced business and network solutions with Deep Blue Communications’ know-how in providing commercial, managed WiFi at scale,” said Bill Stemper, president of Comcast Business, in a statement. “We look forward to delivering innovative solutions that will drive competitive advantage and growth in key vertical industries such as hospitality and entertainment.”
Deep Blue is also an approved WiFi provider for IHG, Best Western, and Choice Hotels. Comcast Business on Tuesday announced it had inked a three-year agreement with Choice Hotels to provide hospitality solutions to the group’s franchise operators nationwide.
Comcast’s business services segment has been growing, bringing in $1.89 billion in revenue during the first quarter, up 9.5 percent year over year. Comcast ended the period with 2.32 million business services customer relationships. That figure stands to expand as Deep Blue Communications customers join the Comcast Business fray.
