Comcast adds international plans for VoIP

July 1, 2008 By Brian Santo

Comcast said that it launched four international calling plans for Comcast Digital Voice, offering customers flat rates for calls made to more than 30 countries.

The plans, which group regions, will each include 100 minutes (what Comcast is calling Carefree Minutes) for a flat fee.

The Western Europe 100 package is $4.95 more per month. The countries included are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The Asia 100 plan is an additional $4.95 per month and covers: China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.

The Latin America 100 plan is $9.95 more per month, covering: Brazil, Columbia, Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua.

Mexico gets its own plan. Mexico 100 is $4.95 more per month.

Later this year, Comcast is also going to offer all VoIP customers Universal Caller ID, with the ability to view caller information on their phone, TV and PC; the SmartZone Communications Center, a central online location where Comcast customers can use “viewable voicemail” to listen to calls or forward them like e-mail, send and receive e-mail and, in the future, remotely program their DVRs; and Enhanced Cordless Telephone, which will enable home phone users to check e-mail and voicemail, send instant messages and access a “universal” personal address book, as well as a yellow pages directory.
