Comcast and National Public Radio on Wednesday announced the debut of the NPR One app on the cable giant’s Xfinity X1 platform.
Customers using capable X1 set-top boxes will, in coming weeks, be able to say “NPR” or “NPR One” into their voice remote to access the network’s news, talk and music programming, company officials said.
“NPR has created a very personal listening experience with the NPR One app and we look forward to giving longstanding and new fans the ability to access the public radio programming they want directly on the TV, with just the sound of their voice,” Comcast Cable Vice President of Strategy and Execution Nancy Spears said in a statement.
NPR programming will also appear next to related items on Xfinity on Demand menus and, in the near future, users will be able to call up a specific program or podcast by saying its name or topic.
In addition, the system will develop a personalized NPR content experience based on customers’ interactions with the app, as well as allow users to access content from their local NPR radio station.
“Every day, people are finding new ways to listen to public radio,” said NPR Senior Director of Digital Products Joel Sucherman. “NPR One feels right at home on X1, bringing the best local and national news, along with your favorite podcasts, in a personalized experience that gets smarter the more you listen.”
