Comcast said it has increased the number of its on-demand movie choices by more than 450 percent by adding nearly 9,000 movie titles in Oregon and southwest Washington.
Comcast’s AnyRoom DVR service made its debut last month in the same areas as the additional movie titles, so now Comcast customers have more movie choices to view on the home networking service.
With the recent additions, Comcast’s digital subscribers have access to more than 11,000 total movie choices in Oregon and parts of Washington, with 3,000 in HD. All told, the subscribers can now access more than 25,000 on-demand choices in the two states.
“This expanded movie offering brings thousands of new movies right to customers’ living rooms in Oregon and S.W. Washington,” said Hank Fore, regional vice president of Comcast in Oregon and southwest Washington.
At the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts announced that the cable operator would be expanding its HD and VOD offerings through its Project Infinity initiative.
Since then, Comcast has worked diligently to reclaim bandwidth through its analog-to digital conversion project, which uses digital terminal adapters. With the reclaimed bandwidth, and with work on content delivery networks and an expansion of its fiber network, Comcast is able to serve up more VOD and HD offerings to its digital subscribers.
