Comcast Business recently rolled out access to its Ethernet services in the eastern suburban area of Kansas City, Mo., and in Olathe, Kansas. The expansion will reportedly offer multi-gigabit Ethernet options for companies that need access to large amounts of bandwidth or links to multiple sites or branch locations. It also targets companies planning to connect their offices to a third-party data center. Services include Ethernet private line, Ethernet virtual private line, Ethernet network service, and Ethernet dedicated internet.
In addition to those services, the operator also reports it now offers larger businesses in the Kansas City suburban area the option to purchase hosted phone applications through session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking, which includes advanced features for improving business continuity and disaster recovery.
In other Comcast Business news, the company announced that Stockton, Calif.-based Con J. Franke Electric Inc. is using the operator’s Ethernet network to power its hosted virtual desktop environment and provide employees with high-speed internet at its home office as well as on the road.
Con J. Franke was established in 1925 as Commercial Electric, and it now provides electrical services for a range of organizations, from water/wastewater treatment and industrial facilities, to marinas, hospitals, and academic institutions. The company recently outsourced its IT operations to Point 1 IT, which upgraded Con J. Franke’s network by moving all servers and computers to its hosted cloud service. “With this new model – along with Point 1’s desktop-as-a-service offering and a 100 Mbps Comcast Ethernet Private Line – Con J. Franke employees now benefit from network connectivity virtually anywhere,” Comcast Business says in a statement.
Point 1 also upgraded Con J. Franke’s T1 lines to a 20 Mbps Ethernet dedicated internet service from Comcast. Additionally, the electric company is using Comcast Business VoiceEdge, which is a cloud-based voice and unified communications solution, as well as Comcast Business internet for redundancy and guest WiFi.
