Comcast Business continues the expansion of its DOCSIS 3.1-based gigabit internet service, making it now available to customers in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States.
Regions included in the latest roll out are: greater Boston, greater Philadelphia, New Jersey, northern Delaware, Baltimore, Md., Charlottesville, Va., and Washington, D.C.
This expands on Comcast’s earlier deployments in Atlanta, Chicago, Chattanooga, Tenn., Detroit, Huntsville, Ala., Miami, and Nashville.
Comcast says additional deployments throughout its national network footprint will happen on a rolling basis through the fall.
“Comcast is building the nation’s largest gig-speed network. We have been at the forefront of DOCSIS 3.1 deployment and today’s roll out further demonstrates our commitment to bringing this transformational technology to all businesses in our footprint,” Kevin O’Toole, SVP of product management at Comcast Business, comments. “Our gig-speed network allows businesses to quickly and easily scale network capacity at their locations to suit their individual needs and to support new technology applications on-site or in the cloud.”
The company’s “Business Internet 1 Gig” and “Business Internet 500” speed tiers are now available to business customers using the Comcast’s existing network.
Comcast indicates these service tiers complement existing gigabit and multi-gigabit options already available, such as Comcast Business Ethernet, which the company has been expanding across the country since 2011. Those services can support speeds of 100 Gbps over fiber, according to Comcast.
