Comcast has integrated Common Sense Media ratings and reviews into its next gen X1 platform.
Comcast had previously blended Common Sense Media’s parental control features into its Xfinity TV Go website. The ratings were based on developmental guidelines from some of the nation’s leading authorities, according to a blog post by Jennifer Musser Metz, director, product management, Comcast Cable in TV.
“We’ve surfaced the ratings in several places – in the on demand library, on your DVR and on live TV listings – by incorporating the easy-to-find Common Sense media logo right into user interface,” she wrote. “Just click on the ‘Parental Guide option on Movie and TV Show Info pages to see the Common Sense Media age rating, as well as a comprehensive review of the program.
“This review includes a content grid that evaluates the program on specific elements including positive messages, role models, violence/scariness, sex, language, consumerism and substance use.”
Comcast’s partnership with Common Sense Media also includes movie and TV show reviews on the cable operator’s VOD platform.
Comcast has rolled out its X1 platform across its footprint and said last week that most of its X1 customers will have new live streaming and cloud DVR features by the end of the year. Comcast hasn’t broken out the subscriber numbers for X1 but has previously said it was installing up to 20,000 X1 boxes a day, and credited the platform for reducing churn for its basic video subscribers.
