Yesterday the Justice Department signed off on the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger, which included a provision that Ticketmaster Entertainment sell is its ticketing software business to Comcast’s ticketing division.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Comcast-Spectacor, which is an arena management firm jointly owned by Comcast and Ed Snider, will buy Ticketmaster’s Paciolan subsidiary that provides ticketing software to ticketing businesses.
As part for the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger, Ticketmaster has to divest itself of Paciolan to Comcast-Spectacor, or another buyer, within 60 days.
Comcast-Spectacor ticketing business operators under the name of New Era Tickets and includes 50 ticketing accounts that produce about 10 million ticket sales a year.
The Washington Post reported in a story today that the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger could serve as a template for the new Justice Department under the Obama administration, which is currently reviewing Comcast and General Electric’s proposed NBC Universal joint venture.
